If you have landed on my channel you are probably interested in flying airplanes in some way. My name is Greg Miller and I live in the Pacific Northwest of the United States of America. The world of off airport flying sometimes referred to as Bush Flying is a growing interest and I have been around since the start of it going mainstream.
I started making flying DVD's over 15 years ago of "Off Airport Flying". The series Big Rocks and Long Props Volume 1-5 was some of the first look into this unique form of off runway or off the beaten path of extreme flying. Since that time, many others have taken up this new way of using an airplane.
I use my airplane for adventure. The skills I have honed over a period of 25 years have taken me on many adventures that most only dream about. If you like the outdoors like I do, then follow along on some old and some new adventures.
Sincerely,

Northern Lights in the Pacific Northwest May 10th 2024
I pulled this of the internet:
A geomagnetic storm is hitting the Earth right now. But what does that mean for people in the PNW area?
While the storm has the potential to impact satellites, GPS, radios, and power grids, its most immediate impact for the Pacific Northwest might be more positive - a rare glimpse at the Northern Lights.
"We might have the opportunity to see the auroras fairly well from here tonight, depending on the timing of when this event impacts the Earth,"
Even though it's not a guarantee, the conditions are better than normal and there are things you can do to increase your chances of seeing the lights should they be visible.
Find a spot that's dark. Face north, ideally with a good view of the horizon.
Keep an eye on the numbers tonight and over the weekend. Solar weather is incredibly complex. You don't have to know the ins and outs in order to see the lights, but you want to keep an eye on something called "Kp" short for Planetary K-index, which measures the level of solar particle radiation by its magnetic effects. If the Kp is six or higher, head to the spot you've picked out for viewing. If the Kp hits eight, everyone should head outside.
Auroras are best at midnight or after midnight as long as they’re actually happening at that time.
Take a camera with you and set it to long exposure, like the night sight setting on your phone’s camera. Taking a long-exposure image of the northern part of the sky will allow you to capture the beginning phases of an aurora before your eyes are able to pick it up.
The aurora borealis is more likely to be visible because this is a particularly large solar storm, which means the sun is spitting more particles toward Earth that affect the planet's magnetic field.
“There’s always material coming at us from the sun, but this is sort of a bubble of it that's been popped and pushed our way and so there's more of it and it's faster when it's coming towards us and so that has a bigger effect on what's going on here."

I have been flying since 1994 and have heard more than once I might be running out of lives! Most people will never experience one accident. I have been lucky to survive more then my fair share along with doing 2 "709" check airman rides after the fact. I am not proud of this fact it is simply the truth and I will freely share my experiences with anyone that asks. I have learned something from ...

I recently got to experience an Air Cam from the best seat. I made a short video of my day. I have ridden in many different airplanes over the years but this by far had the best view. Oh and it is for sale if you are interested.

This is a video I made back in February 2022 and finally got around to uploading it. It was meant to get you thinking about what is safe when hydroplaning an airplane on a river or lake. It also has you consider the possibility or the reality of trying to recovery an airplane in a river or lake. The pictures of different airplanes are not of people I know but it could be anyone of us playing wi...

Mountain Bike version of Aviation, never saw this one before ...very cool and I am pretty sure many hours of practice ....... lover it .
Years ago my dad had a Maule M-4. 210 hp, constant prop. We flew it off 1/4 mile strip n our farm. When he went to the factory to buy it, during the demo they took off inside the hangar and were airborn when it cleared the hangar door. It could take off in the length of a football field and clear the goal posts. This was a full size, four passenger plane that could carry about 1,000 pounds plus fuel.
That old footage is absolutely gorgeous. Color rendition is way more important than resolution, and the equipment quality shows. If anything I'm bothered by the limited dynamic range, but that's an inescapable feature of early CCD technology.
“Playing it safe” 😂
Hey, would you be willing to give me a general area of where you land on those gravel bars? I wanna check them out in the flight simulator and land a cub in those same exact places. Thanks!
Dang! That takeoff ..😅
That one statement about not seeing the tree until you hit it. That resonates deeply with me. I'm considerably older than you and that's the thing that gives me the terrors when I roll out of bed and find myself on the go realizing I'm not really ready yet to be redponding to variables.
The riding at China hat is epic
I want your tires.
What river is that?
You would rock at a cub podcast!
That’s wonderful guys 👍🏼 keep going and good luck.
I love this plane. Been searcher for a supercub or 170b with 180hp. I’m really leaning towards a Maule now
First time view, will admit I was a bit put off by the intro with Vet, House & Gate. “ jealousy for sure“ but some awesome flying video and great info
So, curious about the double slot flaps, how much did it decrease stall speed? Sorry if i missed it in the vid. very interesting mod
Thank you 🙏🏻 for very helpful videos
Real bush pilot here….ex Hudson air service Alaska ….do all that shit in the wind, overgross, aft cg,with a client , one way strip at dusk, after a 12 hour duty day….then I’ll impressed. You tube is full of wannabes bush pilots. This is no exception. Get real posers…..this is a content provider…..not a bush pilot.
Bad Ass
God speed!
Good
Hey 👋 are those 29” or 31”s on the Pacer ?
per me questi sono dei top pilot ..... NoN hanno nemmeno una pista per atterrare cioe per me OWER THE TOP
👍🔊🌐📺😍🥸🦧
Javron struts ?
I presume they carry a spare prop.
Nice bird!
Awesome
I dunno.... don't really have too much sympathy. I have flown bush planes for living for 35+ years. You cowboy around like that you're going to bend airplanes.
Like the Bushwacker.Building similar plane from piper pacer fusalage. Can convert to two front seats with center stick. Modified bearhawk wings. Flat floor with spring gear convertible to cub type gear. Building wings now. Fusalage ready to cover. Have O-320 but would like O-360 Hope to complete in acouple years.
You do nice work man inspires the small guy like me.
Re-watching all of your old videos!
If you don,t know anymore how many times you crashed then anther hobby might be smart . You can only go trough the eye of a needle a couple of times , before it goes wrong forgood . 🙏😇🥰🥰❤️&Light
Siiik
Glad to see a new video. You have been a big inspiration for me getting my license and having more adventures
Finally A question I can answer..
Thanks for posting. I’ll be working in Kotz this summer and look forward to the fishing.
What this engine man?
Hi thank you for the videos, can you please offer some helicopter towing companies in Alaska for remote towing a boat or a plane? I did a google search and couldn't find any companies that provide remote air towing.

You take huge risks, especially where help is essentially not available. I see this in those who skydive and wingsuit it; they take bigger and bigger risks until the inevitable happens. For them, the price is death. For you, perhaps not, but you're in a hell of a jam either way. Don't do it on our account.
Why in the world would you paint your wings in camouflage for back country flying???? Not good head work. With your accident record you should paint your plane bright neon glow in the dark. That would make Search and Rescue’s job easier.
I painted Govt and commercial aircraft for years, plus a few Helicopters,I also painted frack and vacume tanks as well as other sorted military contracks.I live in south central Oklahoma, and we get some pretty cold winters, nothing like Alaska, but down in the single digits many times. One thing I learned on painting frack tanks an vacume tanks, was when it was cold I would put heaters inside the tanks to super heat the skin temperature of the tanks. These tanks were from 3/16 to 1/4 wall thickness. When we started painting our exhaust fans would immediately suck out any heat we had in our booth, but the skin temperature would stay warm enough to allow us to paint without the getting to many runs due to the paint not flashing quick enough.Due to the paint material we use being flammable we had to suck all the overspray and fumes out before we could turn on our booth heat.Looking at your plane something small as a couple big blowdryers stuck up inside your fuselodge should warm a small plane up quick, and you could tape off around the cords to seal off the inside.I would make some kind of rack to hold the dryers up right.I enjoyed your video very much you dont see a lot of aircraft paint videos on here much, and these Stol planes like you guys fly up in Alaska are one of my favorite to watch.Good luck and keep those videos coming.Im retired now I spent over 40 years as an industrial painter and certified welder in the oil and gas industry here in Oklahoma.
hm 3 accidents? damn guy your dangerous,i hope i never am in the same airspace as you lol you not only need to wear a helmet a full leather inflatable crash suit. kevlar vest and have life flight follow you around along with the ntsb the faa and your insurance company
hey a totaly custom maule
I might have missed it previously, what windshield does the 4 place cub use?
Glad things worked out OK for you.
I love your content Greg and feel for you guy on the marriage breakup it’s a really hard thing to go through.love your adventures incorporating them with your work home and family and friends.
